I love books. Love them! The look, touch, smell, weight, and escape of them. I love the look of them & knowledge of their contents on my shelves.
I especially like children's books. Rhyming and lovely illustrations are what draw me in. It has always been my hope to illustrate a children's book someday but that is a different tale...
Anyway, nothing would make me happier than to have a son who loved books. I know I have little control over this but I have done my best to increase our chances. We read to our little babe in utero. We filled the nursery shelves with books. We read to him when he was days old. And now we read at least once a day.
He has gone crazy for one book in particular:
Dr. Seuss' There's A Wocket In My Pocket
We can't be sure why... maybe it's the colors? The small size that he can hold in his hands? That it tastes so good? Anyway, he gets all kooky every time we read it. And now the edges are getting soft from him licking the pages.
I thought it would be appropriate to introduce Arthur to the public library.
We live just down the street from a gorgeous library so we walked on over and pulled all the board books off the shelf & checked them out.
We also signed up for the Multnomah County library's Summer Reading program- yes babies can do it to!
If we read, sing, and engage in early literacy activities we can earn a little onsie that will commemorate his 1st year of being in the program!
Damn, I want him to have that onsie!
Better get to reading!
