7/8: Crazy Day Of Travel!

We got up at 5 & prepared to leave. It was the start of a very long day. Kevin & Katja got up to send us off. Just look at all that baggage!
We walked a good distance to the bus stop. We rode the bus to the Tube, as we took the escalator down my maxi dress caught in the side of the stairs! As I panicked, it drug the hem deeper and deeper in to the escalator. I pulled and pulled but with Chester in the Ergo I just couldn't get it out. Ryan, balancing three suitcases had to hop down a few steps and pull my dress out. It was really scary! Now I was really sweating and my dress, black and oily at the hem rubbed on my feet and ankles, turning them black.

After we boarded the tube and stacked up our luggage we settled in for a ride. I looked over and noticed there was a dude, laying on the floor of the train right in front of the doors. I couldn't see his face. People were stepping over him as they boarded. Several stops in he sat up, sitting on the floor. He looked all nonchalant like sitting on the filthy tube floor was what people did. Then he stood up and came over to sit right by Ryan! A few more stops and he just got up and sauntered off like it was no big deal. We rode the tube to another station, changed trains, & arrived at the airport.

Kevin and Katja got the boys new cars and they were devastated that they had to put them in bins to run through the x-Ray. They stopped their whining as we handed the cars back but Ryan's bag was selected for a thorough search- boo. So I took the boys to play at the mini-Hamley's toy store while we waited.
Ryan's bag was still 5 bags deep in line and we were about 30-20 minutes from departure! I threw my backpack in the stroller, put Chester on my hip, and had Arthur push one handle while I pushed the other, and we set off for the gate. I hoped that if I was there I could keep the plane from leaving without us!

Turns out it's a HUGE terminal and we had to take a lift down to a train, then a lift up to the gates. We were sweating and running and a very nice American man helped us push the stroller down to our gate. The staff at the gate said we had about 10 minutes. I took the boys and our load of stuff to the bathroom. I changed my clothes, Arthur went to the bathroom, and we got Chester a dry diaper.

Ryan begged the person before him to let his bag go first. After the search he RAN to the train then on to the gate. Half the plane had boarded already. We were so glad to have made it!

We took a deep breath and settled in for a 12 hour flight.

Chester has his own shelf to sleep on!
Ohmygod so cute
The view out the window was interesting as we passed over Iceland and Greenland. Can you see the ice??
We watched A LOT of screen time and got a little stir crazy. Chester took two naps, Ryan took one, & Arthur and I were up the whole flight.
There was a bit of turbulence as we prepared to land in Seattle. It upset my stomach a bit. Arthur said he didn't feel good several times. Once we landed and people began to get up, I pulled Chester's diaper out to check it, sticking my finger in to a big poop! I was scrambling to clean my hand and gather our things while Ryan pulled our bags down from the overhead bins. Arthur was wiggling around in the aisle then I looked up to see him vomiting on the floor. The other passengers were routed around us as we tried to clean up the mess. Ryan tried to comfort Arthur while he cleaned the floor, who was crying at this point. I was trying to wipe off our things that had been in vomit range while comforting Chester who was whining "poopy poopy!". Now I was sweating again.

We exited, got Chester's diaper changed, and we made it through passport checks and customs. The boys cried again as they put their cars through the x-Ray. Then Arthur, exhausted, fell asleep. We made it to our connection just before boarding. We hopped the tiny plane from Seattle to Portland.
Boy were we grateful to see Grammy & Granded waiting for us! Polly made us dinner plus banana bread and blueberry crumble- lucky us!

It was a crazy 19 hours from waking to arriving and we were so glad to be back home!!!
